What's in a hair bow? For many moms these days, a lot. Hair bows and clips for little girls are currently the hottest trend. Purchasing these trendy hair bows can be a very costly, as well as very addicting hobby. Why spend the money when you can create your own no-slip hair clip bows with these free hair bow patterns?
To start with you will require these basic materials:
* Sharp scissors
* Double prong alligator clip
* 3/8" grosgrain ribbon of choice
* Glue gun
* Several glue sticks.
Now that you've got all your materials close at hand you can start by plugging in your glue gun and grabbing your alligator clip. Follow these next few steps of these free hair bow patterns will give you adorably easy, and functional no-slip hair clip bows.
Simple No-Slip Hair Bow Clip
Step 1:
Holding your alligator clip in one hand press the ends together allowing the clip to open. Take the end of your grosgrain ribbon and insert it between the prongs right to the back. Close the clip.
Step 2:
Take your now heated glue gun and proceed to apply hot glue to the top of the alligator clip. Press your grosgrain ribbon along the top, opening the clip along the way to ensure the ribbon you clipped inside is sticking to the ribbon you just placed on the top.
Step 3:
Proceed to place the glue all along the clip, one section at a time, and placing ribbon as you go. When you get to the bottom of the outside of the clip open the clip once again and glue the remainder of the ribbon inside the clip so that the entire alligator clip is now lined inside and out.
Step 4:
With either a smaller piece of the same grosgrain ribbon used to line the clip, or a coordinating ribbon of your choice make a circle approximately the size of a half dollar. Glue the ends together.
Step 5:
Place the circle, glued ends part down on top of the top of the lined alligator clip. Locate the middle of the circle, and ultimately the middle of the clip and apply a small dot of hot glue inside of the circle. Press the top of the middle of the circle onto the bottom, thus making a figure 8 shape.
Step 6:
Place a small dot of hot glue on the bottom center of your now figure 8 shape, apply it to the top of the alligator clip, pressing it down firmly.
Step 7:
Cut a piece of ribbon approximately 6cm long and place the middle of this piece ontop of the middle of the top of your figure 8 shape. Use a small hot glue dot to secure it. Now wrap the two remaining end pieces under the inside of the top of the clip.
You should now have a completely lined simplw hair bow clip. To make it no-slip just add a 6cm x 2cm piece of rubberized shelf liner to the inside of the alligator clip and secure it with a small amount of hot glue.
The next of the free hair bow patterns explain how simple it is to make a 'korker' style hair bow. Very popular among moms and children alike.
Fun Korkered Hair Bow Clip
Basic Materials:
* Sharp scissors
* Four yards of good quality grosgrain ribbon cut into one yard pieces
* An alligator or french clip
* Thread or fishing wire
* Glue gun
* Several glue sticks
* 4 - 3/8" wooden dowel
* 8 wooden close pegs
Now to start this trendy hair bow you'll need to preheat your oven at 275 F. Following these next few steps of the last of the free hair bow patterns will leave you with a fun and frilly hair bow at little cost.
Step 1:
Take one yard of ribbon, secure the end of it to a wooden dowel with a wooden close peg.
Step 2:
Wrap ribbon around dowel on a diagonal angle until all the ribbon is on the dowel. Secure the loose end with a wooden close peg.
Step 3:
Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the remaining three one yard pieces of ribbon.
Step 4:
Place ribbon wrapped dowels on a cookie sheet and place in preheated oven for 25 minutes.
Step 5:
Once the ribbon has been baked and sufficiently cooled off to touch proceed to unwrap ribbon from dowels.
Step 6:
Cut the now korkered ribbons into 3" lengths. Grab all pieces in a bunch and tie them in the middle with your thread, making the bunch as tight as you can.
Step 7:
Your bunch should look like a fluffy korker by now, even if it needs some additional fluffing to fill it out. You can now hot glue your bunch directly to a bare clip, or lined clip as described above.
By following these simple steps you should now have two fun and fancy hair clip bows that were both easy to make as well as cost efficient!
